There can be a real sense of calm, urgency, nervousness or even fear before the arrival of a first child. For my maternity photo session with Khaleel and Kate, there was a true sense of calm in their home. I don’t often see that. It’s quite often the opposite.

These two (well, 3 really) were a pleasure to photograph and simply spend time with.

I believe there is a place for the stylized maternity photography that has draped white fabric over a nude, expecting mom, but that’s not my style or interest.

I prefer to photograph the waiting, the love between a couple and that calm before their lives change in such a big and wonderful way. It’s a unique time of transition to document, and I’m so pleased I could capture this delicate time for these two.
